I've a Lenovo G580 which came preloaded with windows 8, but I've it running only windows 7 currently. How do I go about installing an OEM Windows 8 on it?

Simple procedure to be followed. Download a copy of Windows 8 or 8.1 ISO from some place. You can also use the Windows 8.1 media download tool from Microsoft for this purpose. Another way is to use the upgrade assistant as well.
Once you do it, go about installing the ISO the normal way. You will not be asked for a key. The key will be auto-detected applied and activated. No intervention needed. Just make sure when you download the ISO, go to ei.cfg and set the correct edition. Set zero for VL and set the channel to OEM. If this is not present in ei.cfg it will fail to detect and install your key.
Make sure your edition is correct, either Home or Pro and your channel is OEM. If you need help, tell me your edition and I will upload the ei.cfg for you.

Bala, I am currently using pirated Windows 7, and would like to know the exact steps of getting back to OEM Windows 8/8.1.

First of all tell me two things @akiratoriyama
    1. Does your laptop have a sticker with the Windows 8 OEM key? If no. Did you note down the key at any time?
    2. Do you have a Windows 8 ISO with you?
Now if answer to 1. is yes, then keep the key. Download the Windows 8 upgrade assistant, put your key and let the ISO download itself. Then burn it to a USB drive and install it. Note you cannot install Windows 8 in UEFI mode, since if I am not mistaken you converted from GPT to MBR.
If you dont have the key, then find a Windows 8 ISO from somewhere.
    Now follow the steps.
    1. Mount the ISO.
    2. Go to sources/ei.cfg and open ei.cfg in a notepad.
    3. Change channel from RETAIL to OEM in the ei.cfg file.

Now burn the ISO again and proceed with the install. A key will not be asked. It will be autodetected. Thats it.

I will upload the ei.cfg for you.
    Code:
    [EditionID]
    Home
    [Channel]
    OEM
    [VL]
    0

Save it as ei.cfg in the sources folder and go ahead.
