    Ok first things

stop WUAUSERV (windows update services) to delete the contents in "Software Distributions" folder

Right click on Command prompt (and Run as Administrator) Type in

    · net stop wuauserv

it has been reported that this does not stop in some instances, if it fails for you there is an easy fix, just
install Process Lasso Pro (I have v 8.9)
once installed click on Active processes tab in home UI,

    locate
svchost.exe (netsvcs) line and right click and Terminate…..

next in Command prompt Type in

    · net stop bits

    click out of Command prompt

    next

    · Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

    AND

    · Delete All of the contents

Right click on "Command Prompt" (Run as Administrator) again and Type in

    · net start wuauserv

    · net start bits

    That should fix your problem.

    :joy:

my mates Win 7 Pro had all guns blazing every-time it was running. all CPU % and RAM was maxed out

I traced it down with Process Lasso Pro and found the culprit, I did the above steps and

now his aging PC is as quiet as a church mouse... but like a church mouse still squeaks a little

    which is achieved by eliminating
    Software distribution?
    This folder contains the updates?
If it is deleted reload new updates?

reload updates yes..one of the updates was causing Windows Update to constantly run and his PC was running at full CPU and 99% RAM
rendering it useless . i'm thinking newly installed svc pack 1

    Crazy Windows Updates.... ;) :D

Sometimes that expression: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!", applies to those kinds of things. :)

KTS 2017 wouldn't install on his Win 7 without Svc Pack 1 installed.. and he upgraded from KTS 2016 to find new requirements set by Kaspersky. :O:

A month ago I had a problem with WU, he could not find an update and still burdened cpu. I tried a lot of solutions and finally helped update KB3172605.
After installing this update, everything is back to normal.

Of course, not all Windows Updates are "screwy" as the cartoon character said, but a lot of them are. :)

best to wait for at least 2 weeks after an update is released cos by then you'd know about any screwy issues

I think this is the right order

    These updates fix
    Continuous loop:
    -looking for updates-
    Sometimes one is enough
    But sometimes all
    Applies to windows 7
