Aimersoft DVD Creator ver 3.0: A short review Been a long time user of Aimersoft DVD Creator for home use specifically on family videos personal and even for public :) I have other video editors with me but I came to be accustomed to Aimersoft DVD Creator when I want to save it to an ISO file or fit the video into just one dvd disc. Kaka of Aimersoft Studio is sponsoring us licenses for our official giveaway thus this is short review/spin of Aimersoft DVD Creator to perk up the curiosity of the members and to show how easy it is to use. The latest Aimersoft DVD Creator is version 3.0 and is around 38mb download. Trial license can be requested from the developer as did I because my version is older than this one. Not much have changed as observed and it feels very very the same as when I first used it. Installation if fast and upon supplying the license you can fire it up and use it already. One thing though it has Aimersoft Helper Compact.exe (C:\Program Files (x86)\Aimersoft\DVD Creator) and ASHelper.exe (located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Aimersoft\Aimersoft Helper Compact) which you may want to block in your firewall. Blocking this executable from running will jinx Aimersoft DVD Creator and you will not be able to use it. I for one do not need it the reason for my advice to block it in the firewall. The gui looks pretty straight-forward and looking closely in the image below there are elements that gives you a couple of options there. You have the Source, Menu, Preview and Burn tabs at the top of the gui. Clicking the Aimersoft DVD creator logo (that round thing with the dvd-on fire) at the top-most left side corner of the gui you are given options to, Open a new project, Save it(Save/Save As), Add Files which is also an import function, Open a recent project and of course exit the program). At the upper-right corner of the gui is the Help function where you can go directly to the Aimersoft DVD Creator product page, get support directly from Aimersoft via Online Help or it's support center. If you want to directly contact Aimersoft CS via the gui a link to the customer service is provided as with all programs today. The licensing(Register) and other details including Purchase (if you are on trial) and a link a Survey form is also present there. Directly at the left of the Help function is the Options tab where you can set the TV Standard for your dvd (NTSC/PAL), Disc playback mode gives you the option to either (a) start from menu and play all titles sequentially, (b) Start from the first title and play all titles sequentially, or (c) Play tile and return to menu. Well this are how you want your finished dvd is played in the Menu tab which will be discussed as we go along this short review. Updates are there also. That "Help" button there is not the "help function" per se but only a help button to select what your country is and Aimersoft DVD Creator will set the TV Standard appropriately for you. Of course this is a matter of choice for the user also. If you glance at the bottom-right corner of the gui the DVD Standard button is there. Here you are given the option to (a)Fit to disc (--I find this most helpful as there where times that my finished DVD did not fit the D5 4.7gb disc size and Aimersoft fitted it to the disc type very nicely), (b) Standard and (c) High Quality dvd production. Beside the DVD Standards button the DVD Size (to the left) is where you can select the standard D5 which is 4.7gb or the D9 which is 9gb. Source Tab To start making a DVD from your saved videos you need to click "Import video" (see image below) where a you can choose where to import your video in your pc, choose what video you want to import and it will be automatically added to the video list. If you want to add chapters you can click "Add Title" at the bottom of the video list and a new chapter will be created. Notice that there are two chapters (Title 1 and Title 2) and each have their own video list. The project size bar at the bottom will tip you if you are nearing the capacity of the disc size you selected (D5 or D9). See image below. To edit the videos in the video list, just click the "pen icon" as shown in the image below and a windows will appear where you are given options to either, (a) Enhance (b) Trim (c) Watermark (d) add Subtitles. A reset button is also provided if needed. See image below. You can edit or rename the Titles or chapters as needed. Just right-click the Title>Rename and type in what you like. You can also Move down that particular Title/Chapter if you want it to be at the middle or at the bottom of the list. For now and for this short review we will stick to the list in the images. See image below. Menu Tab To setup the DVD menu click the Menu Tab. Here Aimersoft DVD Creator gives you pre-determined templates you may use. Among others are Classic, Car Trip, Field Spotlight, Ivy, and No menu. You can download additional menu templates at the Aimersoft DVD Creator home page. See image below. When a template has been selected you can edit the (a) background display (b) music background (c) thumbnail of your videos and all the text elements of the menu you selected. The aspect ratio selection is there for you to select either 4:3 or 16:9. To edit the text elements you just need to double-click the text element and it will be highlighted with the appropriate text editing option given. For thumbnails, you just need to right-click the thumbnail of the video and the customize thumbnails windows will appear. Here you are given options to, (a) Use the frame of video (b) Use portion of the video --you can select what portion by placing in the start point and end-point of the video frame of your choice. You can preview the video frame thumbnail and edit it via the selectors given. (c) Use other image of your choice in your pc. See image below. The same goes for the background display. You can either (a) Use the frame of video (b) Use portion of the video --you can select what portion by placing in the start point and end-point of the video frame of your choice. You can preview the video frame thumbnail and edit it via the selectors given. (c) Use other image of your choice in your pc. For this short review we will sick to the template for now. See image of how you can edit the background below. To edit the background music of the DVD menu just click the music icon at the bottom portion of the Menu tab gui and the customize background music window will appear. Here you can select whatever music you want, apply fade-in/fade-out/auto-repeat and also trim the music and adjust it's volume. See image of how you can edit the background music below. In the DVD Menu Tab click the arrow pointing to the right to edit the Titles/Chapters elements. Here you can add a title corresponding to the video in the frame. Just click the text icon at the bottom of the gui and an "item" will appear. Double-click that "item" to edit/type whatever text you want to be added. You can also change the "frame " of the video by selecting from the frame templates at the right portion of the gui. To download more frames from Aimersoft just click the download icon at the right-side of the "Frame" title. See images below. Preview Tab The preview tab lets you see the created dvd menu from first page to the last. The DVD menu main page will be first to be displayed with all the elements that you have selected and edited. This preview is as if you are playing the dvd on a dvd player. You just have to click the selector (in this particular menu it's the lampshade icon). If you want to play the video directly you just have to click on "play" or if you need to select a particular video you have in mind, click "Scenes' and you will be transported to the sub-menu or the chapters menu. To select what you want to play click the selector or the lampshade icon. The selector differs via the template chosen. Burn Tab The Burn tab gives the option to burn your project to disc via "Burn to disc" or Save as ISO. You can also label your disc as desired (default is always My DVD). When finished you are also given the option to save your finished project, start a new project or just close and exit Aimersoft DVD Creator. It is always a good thing to save it to a ISO file first because if there are changes you want to make you can just delete the ISO file and open the save project and edit what you want. Aimersoft DVD Creator also makes the appropriate DVD Folders of the project (AUDIO_TS/VIDEO_TS) you saved which can be played via any popular video players. The ISO file can also be played as well. I use Portable VLC Media Player to check the final DVD before burning it to disc. The Burn Tab creation itself for this project was around 20-25minutes for a 12 minute video length (total video length for all 3 titles). For larger files say a full length movie of around 2 hours it may take around 3hours to finish the ISO file and AUDIO_TS/VIDEO_TS folders well that may also be system dependent. Perhaps the more ram would cut the process in half. This is just an 8gb DDR3 desktop. Below is the rough video sample I made from this short review. Using Aimersoft DVD Creator is easy for any user. Editing the elements are pretty straight-forward and options are given forthright. The given templates are good and the option to download more templates for any occasion e.g. Christmas, Dynamic, Holiday, Nature etc are a welcome addition. Of course any video converter can make a DVD nowadays but the personalized touch that Aimersoft DVD Creator offers is a welcome and intangible scenario for any user who wants to make personalized DVD's whether it be for family use or public display. The DVD creation(Burn) is a bit slow and long but as I compared it to Wondershare Filmora not so much of a difference plus there is no DVD menu there. Just an opening title and ending title at that for the "easy creation". Of course it lacks advanced video editing features but come to think of it, it is just a dvd creation application. I like very much the "Fit-to-Disc" function because there were instances that there are videos that cannot be edited anymore to fit the disc. Aimersoft DVD Creation has fitted the video to disc nicely! So for those of us who have tons of videos and want to make personalized DVD's of their precious moments I'd say Aimersoft DVD Creator is a keeper. I hope in the future Aimersoft Studio will have a Blue-Ray creator too!
